Part of the book series: Results and Problems in Cell Differentiation ((RESULTS,volume 9))

Abstract

Genetic mosaics are organisms that are built up by at least two genotypically different cell types. Gynandromorphs are genetic mosaics that consist of both male and female cells. If one of the two X chromosomes of a Drosophila embryo is lost, an XX//XO gynander1 will develop with female XX and male (mutant) XO cells. By various methods XXY//XY gynanders or pure female XXY//XX or pure male XY//XO mosaics can also be obtained.
