Phototaxis in a new Allomyces

  • Published:
Archiv für Mikrobiologie Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

The zoospores of a new species of Allomyces are highly phototactic. An action spectrum of this phototaxis showed a broad peak in the 470 nm to 525 nm region of the spectrum, and the ultrastructure of the zoospores did not reveal any obvious structural basis for this mechanism. The findings are discussed in relation to phototaxis in Chlamydomonas and the rumposome or fibrous body previously found in several other watermold zoospores.
