Phosphocreatine protects endothelial cells from Methylglyoxal induced oxidative stress and apoptosis via the regulation of PI3K/Akt/eNOS and NF-κB pathway
2017, Vascular PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Therefore, the inhibition of vascular endothelial cells apoptosis may be a therapeutic strategy against diabetic complications. It has been reported that there are phosphocreatine alterations in diabetic rat heart [14], even, significantly reducing 43–45% of total in diabetic heart [15,16]. On the other hand, in cells, the isoforms of creatine kinase (CK) reversibly convert about two-thirds of the total Cr pool into PCr, which as a high-energy phosphate compound, is widely used as a nutritional supplement in sports and increasingly also as adjuvant treatment for some diseases [17,18].
