Temsavir blocks the immunomodulatory activities of HIV-1 soluble gp120
2023, Cell Chemical BiologyHIV-1 Vpu restricts Fc-mediated effector functions in vivo
2022, Cell ReportsComponents of a HIV-1 vaccine mediate virus-like particle (VLP)-formation and display of envelope proteins exposing broadly neutralizing epitopes
2022, VirologyCitation Excerpt :Western blot-analysis using gp120-SU-specific antibodies indicated the efficient incorporation of Mos2S.Env in both Gag variant VLPs. Strikingly, the vast majority of Env proteins were cleaved into gp120-SU and the truncated form of gp41-TM by cellular furin-like proteases, as visual from the large amounts of gp120-SU proteins (McCune et al., 1988; Hallenberger et al., 1992; Decroly et al., 1994). In contrast, unprocessed Env precursor gp140-Pr proteins were barely detectable.
The Conformational States of the HIV-1 Envelope Glycoproteins
2020, Trends in MicrobiologyCitation Excerpt :The env gene encodes an approximately 850-residue precursor that is cotranslationally inserted into the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane, trimerizes, and is modified by high-mannose glycans [10]. After transport from the ER to the Golgi, the gp160 precursor is incompletely modified by complex glycans and proteolytically cleaved by a cellular furin protease into the surface unit (gp120) and the transmembrane unit (gp41) [11,12]. Three gp120–gp41 heterodimers form a functional trimer spike on the surface of the infected cell; the non-covalent association of gp120 with the Env trimer results in shedding of gp120 from a subset of Envs.
The lipid membrane of HIV-1 stabilizes the viral envelope glycoproteins and modulates their sensitivity to antibody neutralization
