BMP-gated cell-cycle progression drives anoikis during mesenchymal collective migration
2022, Developmental CellCitation Excerpt :Additionally, we verified the expression of tkv mRNA in the CVM (Figures 2G–2H′) and found that ectopic expression of constitutively active Tkv using the CVM-specific G447-Gal4 driver was sufficient to promote precocious cell division (Video S2). Discrete dpp expression in the TVM, particularly in segments PS3 and PS7, requires inputs from the homeotic genes abdominal-A (abd-A) and Ultrabithorax (Ubx) (Capovilla et al., 1994; Rauskolb and Wieschaus, 1994; Reuter et al., 1990; Thüringer and Bienz, 1993) and is required for normal midgut morphogenesis (Galeone et al., 2017; Panganiban et al., 1990). Additionally, the Drosophila Tbx1 ortholog optomotor-blind-related-gene-1 (org-1) is required for expression of Ubx and dpp in the TVM, while not affecting specification of the midgut musculature (Schaub and Frasch, 2013).
Mechanisms underlying the control of dynamic regulatory element activity and chromatin accessibility during metamorphosis
2021, Current Opinion in Insect ScienceCitation Excerpt :The dpp locus spans over 60 kb and harbors multiple cis-regulatory regions that control its spatiotemporal expression (Figure 2a) [31]. In embryos, dpp is necessary for dorsal-ventral patterning and midgut development, and is initially expressed in the dorsal half of the blastoderm [32,33]. In the larval wing disc, Dpp is expressed in a stripe of cells adjacent to the anterior-posterior boundary where it functions as a morphogen to control patterning and tissue growth [34–36].

2018, Archives of Oral BiologyCitation Excerpt :Moreover, we have attempted to undermine the gene mutations involved with HMG and their possible role in acting as a precursor for oro-dental diseases and some future therapeutic applications and strategies to overcome the hurdles. The HMG were originally discovered in the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) and subsequently they were identified in all metazoan ranging from sponges to vertebrates (Barucca, Canapa, & Biscotti, 2016; Capovilla, Brandt, & Botas, 1994; Carroll, 1995; Lewis, 1978; Sivanantharajah & Percival-Smith, 2015) and were also reported in plants and fungi (Jacob & Monod, 1961; Prunet & Meyerowitz, 2016; Sheridan, 1988). At first their conserved sequence element of 180 bp was named as H repeats as they had low level repeat of bases and these were used to isolate other homeotic genes (the functional gene sequence of homeobox gene motif) from random population of DNA segments in DNA libraries.
