FGFR Regulation of Dendrite Elaboration in Adult-born Granule Cells Depends on Intracellular Mediator and Proximity to the Soma
2021, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Notably, BDNF, a ligand that activates TRKB, is specifically expressed in the IML (Scharfman et al., 1999), a region where FGFR1Δ407-433 mutants show dendrite overelaboration and where in the absence of FGFR-FRS interactions FRS proteins may mediate more TRKB activity. Adult-born GCs require proper dendrite elaboration and neuronal inputs to survive and function (Gould et al., 1990; Bruel-Jungerman et al., 2011; Vuksic et al., 2011; Murphy et al., 2012; Kempermann et al., 2015; Gonçalves et al., 2016a; Woods et al., 2018; Snyder, 2019). Thus, it would not be surprising that region-specific mechanisms exist to coordinate and balance regulators intrinsic to GCs, such as FGFRs as shown here, with cell-extrinsic signals in the environment of GC dendrites, such as region specific inputs.
