Measuring oxytocin concentrations by microdialysis has been reported, where increased amounts of oxytocin and vasopressin were detected during sucking behavior in rodents (Neumann et al., 1993; Orłowska-Majdak, 2004). Thus, microdialysis allows direct access for measuring the oxytocin amount in soft tissues, but it has several weaknesses including inherited dilution effects and delayed kinetics arising from a slow post-analysis process.
