Abstract

From the leaves of Myrsine seguinii, five flavonol glycosides were isolated. Two were identified as quercitrin and myricitrin, and the structures of the remaining three are quercetin 3-rhamnoside-3′-glucoside, myricetin 3-rhamnoside-3′-glucoside, and myricetin 3,4′-dirhamnoside.

From leaves of M. seguinii (Myrsinaceae), three new flavonol glycosides were isolated.

Additionally, Chinese folk medicine reported the use of B. frutescens plant to treat snake bite (Cheung and Li, 1980). Previous studies on the phytochemicals reported flavonoids including flavanone, flavonol, (Quang et al., 2008), flavonol glycoside (Lu et al., 2008), chromones, chromanones (Tsui and Brown, 1996), phloroglucinols (Fujimoto et al., 1996), tasmanones (Tam et al., 2004), pinoquercetin (Zhong et al., 1997) and quercetin (Lu et al., 2008) from B. frutescens. Chronic wounds occur when the wound repair process is delayed or prolonged due to factors such as trauma, diabetes, infection, vascular disease or radiation (Järbrink et al., 2016).

The chloroform and ethyl acetate partitions were separated by consecutive column chromatographies (CC) to yield two new naphthoquinones, named nepenthones F (1) and G (2), along with five known naphthoquinones (3–7), a known acetogenic tetralone (8), and five known flavonoids (9–13). The structures of 3–13 were identified as droserone (3) (Likhitwitayawuid et al., 1998), plumbagin (4) (Rischer et al., 2002), 3-methoxy-7-methyljuglone (5), 2-methoxy-7-methyljuglone (6) (Budzianowski, 1995), nepenthone C (7) (Cannon et al., 1980), cis-isoshinanolone (8) (Bringmann et al., 1999), quercetin (9) (Shen et al., 1993), quercetin 3-O-β-D-glucuronide (10) (Kim et al., 2009), quercitrin (11) (Zhong et al., 1997), kaempferol-3-O-α-l-rhamnoside (12) (Chaturvedula and Prakash, 2011), and (−)-epicatechin (13) (Cai et al., 1991) by careful analysis of their NMR and ESI-MS data and comparison with literature data. All isolated compounds were found for the first time in this plant (Fig. 1).
