Abstract

REPORTS of a 24 h rhythm in the susceptibility of mice to a toxic dose of ethanol1, to audiogenic stimuli2, and to E. coli endotoxin3 suggest that circadian changes in physiological state contribute substantially to the susceptibility of a host to these fixed insults. We now report a daily rhythmicity in the susceptibility of mice to pneumococcal infection.
